El transportador de glucosa glut1 es el responsable de la captaci\u00f3n basal de glucosa y presenta una alta expresi\u00f3n en tejidos fetales. Durante el desarrollo del m\u00fasculo, uno de los principales tejidos sensibles a la insulina, se produce la represi\u00f3n de la expresi\u00f3n transcripcional de glut1 y, parcialmente, se induce la expresi\u00f3n del transportador glut4, responsable de la captaci\u00f3n de glucosa en respuesta a la insulina.  en esta tesis se ha estudiado la regi\u00f3n promotora del gen glut1 y se han identificado algunos de los factores de transcripci\u00f3n responsables de la regulaci\u00f3n a nivel transcripcionalde dicho gen. La regi\u00f3n -99\/-33 del promotor proximal del gen glut1 contiene los elementos necesarios para mantener la actividad transcripcional del gen. En esta regi\u00f3n se ha identificado una caja gc, lugar de uni\u00f3n para los factores de transcripci\u00f3n sp1 y sp3. sp1 act\u00faa como activador de la transcripci\u00f3n del gen glut1, mientras que las diferentes isoformas de sp3 (110 kda y 70 kda) expresadas en las c\u00e9lulas y tejidos estudiados son inhibidoras. La relaci\u00f3n sp1\/sp3 determina el tipo de regulaci\u00f3n (activaci\u00f3n o represi\u00f3n) ejercida a trav\u00e9s del lugar de uni\u00f3n.  durante la proliferaci\u00f3n celular y la etapa fetal sp1 y sp3 son relativamente abundantes siendo su expresi\u00f3n reprimida durante la diferenciaci\u00f3n muscular y el desarrollo perinatal. La diferenciaci\u00f3n miog\u00e9nica promueve una variaci\u00f3n transitoria en la relaci\u00f3n sp1\/sp3 que contribuye a la represi\u00f3n de la transcripci\u00f3n del gen glut1. Este modelo permite explicar la represi\u00f3n transcripcional de glut1 durante el desarrollo muscular y su re-expresi\u00f3n en respuesta a la denervaci\u00f3n, proceso en el que el m\u00fasculo revierte a un fenotipo fetal.
