Se han identificado los residuos que interaccionan con el tripeptido glutation (subsitio g) y con los substratos hidrofobicos (subsitio h). La distinta solvatacion del atomo de s glutation en los dos complejos parece indicar que la desolvatacion que se produciria durante la conjugacion de los dos substratos contribuiria al mecanismo enzimatico. Tambien se ha resuelto la estructura de un mutante termoestable de la proteina bacteriana chey, con mutaciones en la helice 4, una zona de gran inestabilidad. La estructura tridimensional, a 1,9 a de resolucion, confirma la estabilizacion de la helice 4. El principal efector en la estabilizacion de la proteina en su globalidad consiste en la mejora del empaquetamiento del nucleo hidrofobico de la proteina, eliminando cavidades hidrofobicas. Por ultimo, se han obtenido cristales aptos para la difraccion de rayos x de la proteina p10 del fago 029, una proteina estructural necesaria para el empaquetamiento correcto del
