Adem\u00e1s se presentan, como anexo, varios cuadros estad\u00edsticos acerca del numero de alumnos y de el origen e identidad de los seminaristas, as\u00ed como los ingresos y gastos generales entre 1868-1911, a\u00f1os en los cuales estuvo vigente la bula de la cruzada.  en la primera parte, se destaca, como, a pesar de la decisi\u00f3n del concilio de trento de promover seminarios diocesanos, el cabildo de la di\u00f3cesis de oporto se opuso a su realizaci\u00f3n alegando motivos de poca relevancia como, por ejemplo, la cercan\u00eda de los centros universitarios de braga y coimbra. Esto hizo que, hasta finales del siglo xviii, la formaci\u00f3n de los candidatos al sacerdocio estuviese a cargo de los jesuitas y otras congregaciones.  cuando los jesuitas fueron expulsados de portugal, el obispo de oporto, d. Ant\u00f3nio de san jos\u00e9 e castro inici\u00f3 el proceso de fundaci\u00f3n de un seminario episcopal, en 1800. Las invasiones francesas retrasaron la ejecuci\u00f3n del plan. Con gran dificultad, el cabildo termin\u00f3 la construcci\u00f3n del edificio y dio inici\u00f3 a las clases en 1812. No obstante, en 1832, con las luchas liberales, el seminario fue casi reducido a escombros, lo que provoc\u00f3 el cierre de la instituci\u00f3n.  unos a\u00f1os m\u00e1s tarde, la di\u00f3cesis comenz\u00f3 a ofrecer formaci\u00f3n para sus posibles candidatos al sacerdocio, con clases de dogm\u00e1tica ymoral, que se prolongaban durante dos a\u00f1os. En 1862 se reabri\u00f3 el seminario de oporto, que recibi\u00f3 un gran impulso bajo el episcopado del cardenal d. Am\u00e9rico dos santos silva y de su sucesor, d. Ant\u00f3nio jos\u00e9 de sousa barroso. Ambos obispos tuvieron como colaborador m\u00e1s destacado al dr.
