En todos los casos, la prote\u00edna objeto de estudio, que pertenece a la familia de las serinproteasas, es la tripsina bovina. Este enzima digestivo presenta un gran inter\u00e9s en los estudios estructurales debido a las semejanzas que presenta con otros enzimas de la misma familia, especialmente en los residuos que forman la zona catal\u00edtica del enzima y a su disponibilidad comercial. De esta forma, la tripsina bovina puede ser un punto de estudio inicial como subsitutivo de enzimas como el factor xa, dificil de obtener y con elevado precio comercial.  gracias a esta semejanza, se ha podido estudiar la uni\u00f3n de un inhibidor, aislado y purificado por primera vez, proveniente de semillas de girasol y que presenta una estructura biblica poco habitual. Se han desvelado la forma de uni\u00f3n del mismo a la tripsina bovina, as\u00ed como su afinidad por otros enzimas de la misma familia.  en colaboraci\u00f3n con una empresa de biotecnolog\u00eda brit\u00e1nica se han determinado tambi\u00e9n las estructuras de diversos complejos tripsina-inhibidor, donde la mol\u00e9cula del inhibidor procede de los laboratorios de la compa\u00f1\u00eda farmac\u00e9utica y se encuentran en su mayor\u00eda en v\u00edas de desarrollo como f\u00e1rmacos de pr\u00f3xima comercializaci\u00f3n en la lucha contra enfermedades como asma o trombosis.  como complemento a estos estudios estructurales se ha estudiado tambi\u00e9n la uni\u00f3n de otras mol\u00e9culas org\u00e1nicas en el centro activo del enzima, como punto de inicio del dise\u00f1o de nuevos f\u00e1rmacos, m\u00e1s potentes que los conocidos.  para la realizaci\u00f3n de estos estudios se ha utilizado el difract\u00f3metro de \u00e1nodo rotatorio y detector tipo image plate de la universidad de bristol, con la que ha existido una colaboraci\u00f3n muy estrecha, as\u00ed como las instalaciones del srs de daresbury.
