Los efectos fisiol\u00f3gicos de la dopamina en el estriado est\u00e1n mediados por cinco tipos de receptores capaces de interaccionar con el sistema de segundos mensajeros acoplados a prote\u00ednas g. Estos receptores se pueden agrupar en los familias d1(d1 y d5) y d2(d2,d3,d4), en funci\u00f3n de sus caracter\u00edsticas estructrales, farmacol\u00f3gicas y mecanismos de transducci\u00f3n de la se\u00f1al. el papel funcional particular de los receptores d1 y d2 ha sido ampliamente estudiado, no as\u00ed el del resto de los receptores dopamin\u00e9rgicos. Con el fin de profundizar en el conocimiento de los receptores d4 y d5, se ha estudiado la localizaci\u00f3n de ambos receptores a nivel regional, celular y subcelular en el estriado de mamiferos con t\u00e9cnicas inmunocitoquimicas. adem\u00e1s, se han caracterizado fenot\u00edpicamente a las c\u00e9lulas estriatales que expresan ambos receptores, y se ha estudiado la posible colocalizaci\u00f3n de los receptores d4 yd5.  en el estriado de rata, el receptor d4 se expresa de forma diferencial en las distintas regiones y compartimenos:mayor expresi\u00f3n en las regines caudales que en las rostrales; en las dorsolaterales que en las ventromediales; y en los estriosomas que en la matriz. De acuerdom con esta distribuci\u00f3n, la dopamina mediar\u00eda su acci\u00f3n a trav\u00e9s de los receptores receptores d4 en los circuitos motores y limbicos del estriado. A nivel subcelular, el receptor d4 se expresa fundamentalmente en estructuras postsin\u00e1pticas. la localizaci\u00f3n presin\u00e1ptica se reduce a algunos axones miel\u00ednicos y no miel\u00ednicos y terminales ax\u00f3nicos. En el estriado de mono, el patr\u00f3n de distribuci\u00f3n heterog\u00e9neo del receptor d4 es similar al observado en el estriado de rata.  el receptor d5 presenta un patr\u00f3n de
