Para dicho an\u00e1lisis se ha tenido en cuenta el resto de su producci\u00f3n, especialmente la novel\u00edstica y ensay\u00edstica, y la de autores representativos de su generaci\u00f3n, y en general, del exilio de 1939.  partiendo del estudio individual de cada uno de los cuentos y utilizando para ello una metodolog\u00eda ecl\u00e9ctica y adecuada a las caracter\u00edsticas de cada uno, se ha llegado a demostrar la gran polifon\u00eda de la cuent\u00edstica de max aub. Los doce vol\u00famenes de que consta su narrativa breve se adecuan y complementan el conjunto de su laberinto m\u00e1gico. Por un lado muchas de estas obras amplifican la tem\u00e1tica de los campos y a\u00f1aden a estas novelas la tem\u00e1tica del exilio. Por otro, los restantes relatos contin\u00faan con la tendencia vanguardista que aub hab\u00eda seguido durante la preguerra y la evolucionan. Una y otra tendencias, al final de su obra, se fusionan en el que podr\u00edamos denominar \u00abel otro laberinto de max aub\u00bb: aquel en el que realidad y ficci\u00f3n se unen en el largo y oscuro t\u00fanel del olvido y la memoria.  tales conclusiones certifican que la producci\u00f3n cuent\u00edstica de este autor es una de las m\u00e1s interesantes de su generaci\u00f3n. Los grandes estudiosos de este g\u00e9nero, a los que en todo momento se ha tenido en cuenta, as\u00ed lo vienen demostrando desde los a\u00f1os sesenta. Es una opini\u00f3n compartida por la mayoria de la critica literaria que max aub, con su gran capacidad de asimilar la historia y su vocaci\u00f3n transmisora, es de imprescindible lectura para la comprensi\u00f3n de buena parte del siglo xx espa\u00f1ol. A esta capacidad de historiador, el estudio de los cuentos a\u00f1ade otra: su car\u00e1cter combativo y postmoderno, es decir ecl\u00e9ctico, que demuestra poseer como creador de
