Mediante la aplicacion de la tecnica de bandeo-c que permite reconocer cromosomas, se ha estudiado el comportamiento de pares de homologos especificos. Los fallos en el apareamiento dan lugar a la aparicion de univalentes en metafase i y a traves del analisis en esta fase se ha determinado que no todos los pares de homologos forman univalentes con igual probabilidad. En anafase i se ha analizado el comportamiento de los univalentes, que pueden dividir tanto reduccional como ecuacionalmente. La probabilidad de que los univalentes dividan ecuacionalmente ha sido estimada a partir de un modelo y se ha establecido que a pesar de que hay diferencias en las probabilidades de formar univalentes todos los univalentes dividen ecuacionalmente con la misma probabilidad. Asimismo, ambos miembros del par de homologos se comportan independientemente. Los fallos en la formacion de quiasmas se detectan por la presencia de puentes y fragmentos en anafase i. Se han estudiado los cromosomas involucrados en dichos errores y se ha determinado que no existe una relacion directa entre el numero de asociaciones en metafase i y la frecuencia de fallos.  el analisis de la segunda division meiotica pone de manifiesto que existe una relacion entre los errores observados en las fases precedentes y la frecuencia con que aparecen anomalias en metafase
