Se insiste en su definici\u00f3n de la vida social, con una atenci\u00f3n prioritaria al proyecto racionalista moderno que informa su teor\u00eda de la acci\u00f3n comunicativa y que determina su \u00e9nfasis en el entendimiento intersubjetivo como clave para garantizar el sue\u00f1o ilustrado de la autorrealizaci\u00f3n del hombre en libertad.  la convicci\u00f3n del habermas sobre el horizonte pol\u00edtico de la democracia radical es puesta en contraste con modos de articular la convivencia que subrayan la parcialidad del enfoque cr\u00edtico (medido, adem\u00e1s, desde la propia pretensi\u00f3n de categorizaci\u00f3n de la realidad que asume dicho enfoque).  una parte importante del texto consiste en un an\u00e1lisis de los usos simb\u00f3licos y pol\u00edticos del conocido mural de picasso, guernica. El estudio de este ejemplo muestra dimensiones de la intersubjetividad que habermas no toma en consideraci\u00f3n en sus conceptualizaciones.
