Esta tesis doctoral se ha centrado principalmente en el complejo del fotosistema ii, integrado en la membrana tilacoidal del cloroplasto, y que se caracteriza por ser el complejo mas sensible del transporte electronico a situaciones adversas, a la vez que puede generar mayores mecanismos de defensa. En nuestro estudio hemos puesto de manifiesto que el cu no es un elemento estructural del fotosistema ii, habiendo conseguido previamente para ello una nueva preparacion de dicho fotosistema con un mayor grado de pureza. Para determinar su efecto toxico ha sido necesario el uso de tecnicas biofisicas que han permitido determinar que el cu bloquea el transporte electronico entre la tirosina z y el centro de reaccion
