Una de las alternativas viables para paliar este problema consiste en la obtenci\u00f3n de plantas (transg\u00e9nicas) m\u00e1s tolerantes a salinidad, meidante el uso de t\u00e9cnicas de \u00abmejora gen\u00e9tica molecular\u00bb. Esto requiere un conocimiento profundo de los mecanismos de respuesta a sal, adem\u00e1s de la identificaci\u00f3n de los genes implicados en los mismos.  el gen ltl1 (por \u00ablithium toleran lipase 1\u00bb) de arabidopsis thaliana fue aislado en base al fenotipo de tolerancia a sal que confiere su expresi\u00f3n en la levadura saccharomyces crevisie. Su sobre-expresi\u00f3n en plantas transg\u00e9nicas confiere asimismo cierta tolerancia frente a tratamientos con licl y nacl, tanto en ensayos de germinaci\u00f3n in vitro como en plantas crecidas en maceta.Sin embargo no se observa tolerancia frente a estr\u00e9s osm\u00f3tico, lo que indica una protecci\u00f3n espec\u00edfica contra el componente de toxicidad i\u00f3nica de la sal. Adem\u00e1s, en plantas germinadas en medio l\u00edquido, el gen end\u00f3geno se activa transcripcionalmente, de forma muy r\u00e1pida, en presencia de estas sales y de otros inductores, como aba o \u00e1cido salic\u00edlico.  un fenotipo similar de tolerancia a sal se ha detectado en l\u00edneas transg\u00e9nicas de arabidopsis expresando el gen srh1, que codifica una prote\u00edna putativa de la familia de factores des plicing \u00absr-like\u00bb, que fue aislado mediante la misma estrategia.  estos resultados abren la posibilidad de utilizar ambos genes como herramientas
