Muchas de las acciones que presentan la angiotensina ii constribuyen al desarrollo de las aterosclerosis. En los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os se han profundizado en el estudio de las propiedades antiateroscler\u00f3ticas de f\u00e1rmacos capaces de bloquear el sistema renina-angiotensina y los antagonistas de receptores at1 de angiotensina, y que tradicionalmente han sido \u00fanicamente empleados en el tratamiento de la hipertensi\u00f3n.  el objetivo de esta tesis doctoral fue investigar la acciones antiaterog\u00e9nicas de trandolapril, inhibidor del enzima de conversi\u00f3n de angiotensina ii, irbesart\u00e1n y losart\u00e1n, antagonistas del receptor at1 de angiotensina, en conejos alimentados con una dieta rica en colesterol. Se examinaron los efectos del tratamiento con estos f\u00e1rmacos sobre:  -cambios en las respuestas inducidas en distintos lechos vasculares  arteria aorta  arteria coronaria proximal  arteria mesent\u00e9rica  -perfil lip\u00eddoco plasm\u00e1tico  colesterol total  ldl  hdl  -contenido de colesterol en aorta  -alteraciones morfol\u00f3gicas en aorta  estos estudios realizados en animales que han desarrollado ateog\u00e9nesis sugieren que los f\u00e1rmacos utilizados, trandolapril, irbesart\u00e1n y losart\u00e1n, tendr\u00edan un efecto beneficioso sobre la reactividad vascular y disminuir\u00edan la formaci\u00f3n de placa de ateroma. Estos acciones junto con la disminuci\u00f3n de la presi\u00f3n arterial que producen estos f\u00e1rmacos contribuir\u00edan a la prevenci\u00f3n de accidentes
