Se adoptaron entonces en eeuu nuevos codigos sismicos pero resulto necesario reacondicionar sismicamente los que ya estaban construidos, de forma que un nuevo terremoto no inhabilitase la red vial, permitiendo la llegada de ayuda y evacuacion en la zona. Esta tesis doctoral realiza un estudio de las causas de fallo sismico de los puentes y establece las pautas para realizar un programa de reacondicionamiento sismico de dichas estructuras en espa\u00f1a.  estudiando las distintas fases: cribado previo, analisis de vulnerabilidad y aplicacion de tecnicas de reacondicionamiento.
