El desarrollo de esta tesis se centra en la aplicaci\u00f3n de t\u00e9cnicas de visualizaci\u00f3n y procesado de im\u00e1genes para la caracterizaci\u00f3n del chorro, y en concreto en el establecimiento de metodolog\u00edas experimentales y algoritmicas , que permitan realizar estas medidas de la forma m\u00e1s objetiva, repetible y precisa que sea posible.  en el capitulo 1 se justifica el interes del trabajo realizado y se plantean los objetivos que se quieren alcanzar en la tesis.  en el capitulo 2 se describen brevemente las t\u00e9cnicas de procesado digital de im\u00e1genes y de reconocimiento estadistico de patrones, que son la base de los algoritmos que se proponen en la tesis para el an\u00e1lisis de las im\u00e1genes de chorros diesel.  en el capitulo 3 se describen los procesos de inyecci\u00f3n y combusti\u00f3n diesel, y se revisa la aplicaci\u00f3n de diferentes t\u00e9cnicas opticas de medida y visualizaci\u00f3n en su estudio. Adem\u00e1s, y por su inter\u00e9s para esta tesis, se revisa la aplicaci\u00f3n de tecnicas de procesado de im\u00e1genes en este campo.  en el capitulo 4 se plantea la metodolog\u00eda de an\u00e1lisis macrosc\u00f3pico de im\u00e1genes de chorros diesel que se propone en la tesis. Esta metodolog\u00eda se ha desarrollado para im\u00e1genes de chorro libre isotermo, obtenidas en una maqueta de alta densidad con la configuraci\u00f3n optica de iluminaci\u00f3n trasera difusa, y contempla los aspectos m\u00e1s importantes: configuraci\u00f3n \u00f3ptica, configuraci\u00f3n de los par\u00e1metros de la c\u00e1mara, secuencia de algoritmos de procesado de im\u00e1genes y
