Es el tejido adiposo marr\u00f3n tam. Su funci\u00f3n viene determinada por la presencia de una prote\u00edna espec\u00edfica, ucp1, en la membrana mitocondrial interna. En 1997 se clonaron dos nuevas prote\u00ednas desacopladoras, ucp2 y ucp3, con una distribuci\u00f3n m\u00e1s ubicua. En la presente tesis se ha determinado el perfil de expresi\u00f3n de las nuevas ucps durante el desarrollo fetal y la diferenciaci\u00f3n del tam. As\u00ed, el mrna de ucp2 se detecta con anterioridad al de ucp1 y el de ucp3 solamente es detectable a partir del nacimiento. En animales adultos el mrna de ucp2 incrementada como respuesta al fr\u00edo, al igual que el de ucp1, pero no as\u00ed el de ucp3. Adem\u00e1s hemos identificado a los agonistas ppary y el is\u00f3mero 9-cis del \u00e1cido retinoico como principales reguladores de los niveles de mrna de ucp2 en adipocitos marrones maduros.  los factores de transcripci\u00f3n c\/ebp regulan el promotor del gen marcador del tam, el promotor ucp1, in vitro. Por eso, nos planteamos analizar el papel de dos de los miembros de la familia, c\/ebpalfa y c\/ebpbeta en la diferenciaci\u00f3n y funci\u00f3n del  tam in vivo. Para ello utilizamos dos modelos de animales, los ratones con disrupci\u00f3n dirigida (knockout, ko) de c\/ebpalfa o de c\/ebpbeta.  la falta de c\/ebpbeta determina en los ratones una deficiente termoregulaci\u00f3n; esta incapacidad para regular la temperatura corporal se debe a una falta de substratos energ\u00e9ticos tanto end\u00f3genos como ex\u00f3genos, asociada a una deficiente actividad del enzima lipoprote\u00edna lipasa en tam.  los ratones ko c\/ebpalfa, presentan importantes alteraciones en el proceso de diferenciaci\u00f3n del tam. As\u00ed, no s\u00f3lo se halla impedida la diferenciaci\u00f3n adipog\u00e9nica y termog\u00e9nica del tejido, sino que tambi\u00e9n lo est\u00e1n la biog\u00e9nesis mitocondrial y la adquisici\u00f3n del estado tiroroideo maduro del tam.
