Se caracterizan por teneralmente, bajo ph y gran cantidad de elementos en disolucion.  la tecnica mas usual para mejorar la calidad de estas aguas es a\u00f1adirle reactivos alcalinos que, por un lado contrarrestan la acidez y, por el otro, crean condiciones favorables a la deposicion de elementos disueltos. Se estudia la posibilidad de acondicionar aguas contaminadas, mediante sistemas que funcionan solos, sin atencion humana. Son los llamados sistemas pasivos.
