Adem\u00e1s de los genes espec\u00edficos implicados en el establecimiento de simbiosis efectivas, existen otros genes bacterianos necesarios tanto en vida saprofitica como en simbiosis. la alteraci\u00f3n de genes implicados en rutas de bios\u00edntesis de amino\u00e1cidos, como la leucina, tiene un efecto negativo sobre la capacidad de rhizobium para nodular su leguminosa hospedadora. En esta tesis doctoral se ha llevado a cabo la caracterizaci\u00f3n molecular de genes que codifican enzimas de la ruta biosint\u00e9tica de la leucina de rhizobium, asi como la determinaci\u00f3n del papel que la leucina o alguno de sus intermediarios metab\u00f3licos puedan jugar durante el establecimiento de la simbiosis rhizobium-leguminosa.  los resultados obtenidos nos han permitido establecer los siguientes conclusiones:  1. Los genes leua de sinorhizobium meliloti y rhizobium leguminosarum bv. viciae, que codifican para t\u00edpicas   -isopropilmalato sintasas,son necesarios para la bios\u00edntesis de leucina y para la inducci\u00f3n de la formaci\u00f3n de n\u00f3dulos fijadores de nitr\u00f3geno en las correspondientes leguminosas hospedadoras.  2. El fenotipo nod- exhibido por cepas leua- de s. Meliloti y r. Leguminoarum bv. Viciae se debe a la combinaci\u00f3n de dos efectos diferentes: una auxotrofia para la leucina y una incapacidad para inducir correctamente la expresi\u00f3n de los genes de la nodulaci\u00f3n en respuesta a las se\u00f1ales de tipo flavonoide producidas por las plantas hospedadoras.  3. Se propone que un compuesto intermediario en la bios\u00ednteis de leucina es necesario para la correcta interacci\u00f3n de la prote\u00edna reguladora nodd con los flavonoides vegetales, a fin de activar la expresi\u00f3n de los genes de la nodulaci\u00f3n bacterianos. Dicho metabolito intermediario no es necesario para la activaci\u00f3n de genes nod independiente de flavonoides.  4.
