En primer lugar se ha estudiado el papel de a4b1 en la regulaci\u00f3n de apoptosis en l\u00edneas celulares b de diferente origen. Los resultados demuestran que esta integrina previene la apoptosis inducida por privaci\u00f3n de suero en ciertos casos independientemente del origen celular. Sin embargo no parece intervenir en la apoptosis inducida por anti-igm o anti-fas, sugiriendo diferentes rutas de se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n en estos casos. La ocupaci\u00f3n de a4b1 tambi\u00e9n previene la apoptosis espont\u00e1nea de c\u00e9lulas de leucemia linfoide cr\u00f3nica b (llc-b) por mecanismos que implican modulaci\u00f3n del cociente bcl-2\/bax. Por otra parte, se han realizado estudios \u00abin vivo\u00bb para determinar el posible papel de a4 en la progresi\u00f3n de c\u00e9lulas malignas en el mieloma m\u00faltiple. La inyecci\u00f3n de un acm anti-a4 en ratones con mieloma inducido reduc\u00eda algunos s\u00edntomas de esta patolog\u00eda sugiriendo que esta podr\u00eda ser una nueva v\u00eda terape\u00fatica futura. Estos resultados ayudar\u00e1n a explicar la supervivencia de algunas c\u00e9lulas b malignas as\u00ed como la localizaci\u00f3n de c\u00e9lulas de mieloma en la m\u00e9dula \u00f3sea.
