Estas formulaciones pueden tener en cuenta materiales con perdidas y\/o inhomogeneos caracterizados simultaneamente por tensores arbitrarios de permitividad y permeabilidad en medios anisotropos, y ademas tensores arbitrarios de acoplo, como los de actividad optica, en medios bianisotropos. Los analisis propuestos son capaces de manejar secciones transversales arbitrarias, supresion de soluciones espurias, obtencion de modos complejos, y la posibilidad de especificar la frecuencia o alternativamente la constante de propagacion compleja como parametro de entrada. Estas formulaciones conducen a un sistema de valores propios cuadratico de dimension n que es transformado en uno generalizado de dimension 2n con matrices dispersas. Este autosistema se resuelve mediante el metodo del subespacio aprovechando las propiedades dispersivas de las matrices. Los metodos propuestos se han comprobado analizando diversas estructuras con medios anisotropos, biisotropos y bianisotropos.
