En primer lugar se finalizan los proyectos de secuenciacion de los genes implicados en este proceso biosintetico, localizados en la agrupacion genica (o cluster) waa, para las especies serratia marcescens n28b y klebsiella pneumoniae c3(14 y 13 genes e s. marcescens y k.Pneumoniae c3, respectivamente). En segundo lugar se atribuyen funciones a cada uno de los genes en el proceso de biosintesis del nucleo mediante: (i) experimentos de complementacion con mutantes de e. Coli k-12 y\/o de salmonella enterica serovar typhimurium, (ii) similitud de secuencia, y (iii) comparacion de las funciones atribuidas con estructuras parciales del nucleo del lps de estas dos especies bacterianas. En tercer lugar se concluye que dichas agrupaciones waa se encuentran bastante conservadas en diferentes cepas pertenecinetes a diferentes serovares de atigeno o en las dos especies estudiadas. A partir de estos datos y de estudios previos se analizan comparativamente las agrupaciones waa de e. Coli k-12, r-1,r-2,r-3,r-4, s.Enterica serovar typhimurium, serratia marcescens n28by klebsiella pneumoniae c3. La ultima parte de la tesis demuestra la existencia de homologos del gen waae en especies que presentan un residuo de glucosa unido mediante en la b 1 &#8212;&gt;4 al residuo de l-glicero-manno-d-heptosa i (especies k. pneumoniae, s.Marcescens, proteus mirabilis, yersinia enterocolitica y enterobacter aerogenes). Finalmente se establece una misma funci\u00f3n para los genes waae de estas cinco especies bacterianas mediante experimentos de complemenacion de mutantes waae de s.Marcescens y k.Pneumoniae con genes waae aislados por pcr de cada una de estas especies.
