Mar <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>El estudio de las bases moleculares de las rutas bioqu\u00edmicas que permiten a los microorganismos degradar compuestos arom\u00e1ticos sustituidos, es uno de los pilares fundamentales en los que se basa el dise\u00f1o y la construcci\u00f3n de microorganismos mejorados gen\u00e9ticamente para su uso en el tratamiento de zonas contaminadas con disolventes org\u00e1nicos. En muchas ocasiones, las rutas bioqu\u00edmicas responsables de la degradaci\u00f3n de dichos compuestos se codifican en pl\u00e1smidos. Uno de los pl\u00e1smidos degradativos mejor estudiados es el pl\u00e1smido tol pwwo de pseudomonas putida, responsable de la degradaci\u00f3n de tolueno y xileno. En dicho pl\u00e1smido los genes catab\u00f3licos se organizan en dos operones: el oper\u00f3n de la ruta upper, que codifica los enzimas que intervienen en la conversi\u00f3n del tolueno y derivados sustituidos de \u00e9ste hasta benzoatos y alquibenzoatos; y el oper\u00f3n de la ruta meta, que codifica los enzimas necesarios para la oxidaci\u00f3n de dichos compuestos hasta intermediarios del ciclo de krebs.
