Se ha determinado que la fraccion de proteosa-peptona responsable de la produccion de pigmento atraviesa un amembrana de ultrafiltracion de 1000 nmwc, es termoestable y dializable. Para el componente almidon se ha encontrado una correlacion entre la capacidad para producir pigmento y la capacidad para complejar yodo. El suero ejerce una funcion nutricional asi como una funcion potenciadora de pigmento. El suero de caballo puede reemplazarse por otros (bovino, conejo, humano) pero no por suero fetal bovino.
