La signatio materiae se refiere a la a\u00f1adidura del accidente cantidad sobre la materia; de ah\u00ed que la materia signada significa la materia sobrea\u00f1adida por ciertas dimensiones actuales e incomunicables. Por ello, la materia en cuanto principio de individuaci\u00f3n es efectivamente el principio de incomunicabilidad de la sustancia. Tom\u00e1s nunca vari\u00f3 su doctrina, a pesar de plantearla en diferentes contextos y seg\u00fan diversos modos de consideraci\u00f3n. Se equivocaron  los cr\u00edticos e incluso algunos int\u00e9rpretes de la tesis tomista al comprender la materia signata como la ordenaci\u00f3n de la materia a esta y no aquella cantidad, porque la materia no se ordena a la cantidad, sino a la forma sustancial; el accidente se ordena a la sustancia, mediante su recepci\u00f3n en la materia previamente informada. La incomunicabilidad es el efecto inmediato de la individuaci\u00f3n por la materia, de tal modo que la unidad, la diversidad y la multiplicadad num\u00e9rica encontran su fundamento ontol\u00f3gico en la propia incomunicabilidad. En el contexo atropol\u00f3gico, el cuerpo es el principio de individuaci\u00f3n dispositivo del alma, por que el alma , para ser individual, depende del cuerpo s\u00f3lo en lo que se refiere al inicio de sus existencia, pero no respecto del final; pues ella subsiste separada del cuerpo de modo individual, porque retiene, tras la corrupci\u00f3n del cuerpo que la individu\u00f3 en el inicio, su individualidad original. En este \u00e1mbito, para tom\u00e1s , si el cuerpo es el principio de individuaci\u00f3n del alma, la personalidad lo ser\u00e1 de la naturaleza humana, en la medida en que la entera
