Donovani y t. Cruzi son dos protozoos parasitos pertenecientes al orden kinetoplastida. Ambos presentan gran importancia sanitaria, al ser los agentes etiologicos de la leishmaniasis visceral y de la enfermedad de chagas respectivamente. Frente a estas enfermedades no se dispone de tratamiento eficaz en la actualidad, dado que los existentes presentan alta toxicidad o requerimientos molestos para su administracion. En la presente tesis se han valorado frente a los parasitos anteriormente citados, una serie de agentes quimioterapicos de nueva sintesis (complejos metalicos y derivados acridinicos), tanto \u00abin vitro\u00bb como \u00abin vivo\u00bb. Se han estudiado tambien los efectos que dichos compuestos presentan al actuar sobre los parasitos, tanto a nivel ultraestructural como a nivel bioquimico. Del mismo modo se ha estudiado el posible efecto preventivo que estos compuestos poseen al actuar sobre bancos de sangre infectados por t. Cruzi. Esta memoria de tesis doctoral aporta nuevos datos al conocimiento de estos dos protozoos de enorme interes sanitario.
