Para ello se utilizaron un total de 11107 ejemplares pertenecientes a las colecciones del museo nacional de ciencias naturales de Madrid, del museu de zoolog\u00eda de barcelona, de artur serrano (facultade de ciencias de la universidad de lisboa), de francisco novoa (departamento de zoolog\u00eda y antropolog\u00eda f\u00edsica de la universidad de santiago de compostela) y del propio autor. concretamente se abordan tres aspectos: la sistem\u00e1tica, incluyendo claves de identificaci\u00f3n, descripciones, datos de biolog\u00eda y ecolog\u00eda, ilustraciones y \u00e1reas de distribuci\u00f3n concretas a partir del material estudiado y las citas bibliogr\u00e1ficas; la filogenia de las especies ib\u00e9ricas, baleares y norteafricanas, resultando la creaci\u00f3n de dos nuevos subg\u00e9neros, baeticocalathus y orthocalathus; y la macroecolog\u00eda, basada  en la estimaci\u00f3n de las \u00e1reas de la pen\u00ednsula ib\u00e9rica y baleares que pueden considerarse bien muestreadas y en la b\u00fasqueda de las variables geogr\u00e1ficas y ambientales que influyen en los patrones de riqueza de especies (diversidad alfa) y de variaci\u00f3n en la composici\u00f3n
