In the decision making processes along the way, risk\/benefit assessments are always involved, making the pharmaceutical analysis crucial. In recent years there has been an increasing activity in pharmaceutical research leading to even more sophisticated and complicated samples to be analysed, requiring the development of new analytical strategies to meet the demands of industry.   chromatographic sciences and pharmaceutical analysis are closely related research fields, continually posing new challenges for each other. fast, robust, selective methods for routine analysis in quality control do not seem to be the only requirements to be fulfilled nowadays. Chromatography is called upon to play a decisive role for many other steps, such as impurity profiling, the characterisation of excipients and the elucidation of degradation products, in order to achieve higher quality products. All these processes need to be assisted by more exhaustive separations. Therefore, chromatographers, as demonstrated in this memory, are needed to provide part of the key to the solution for pharmaceutical development.     this thesis is concerned with different issues related to pharmaceutics, which emerged from our collaborations with pharmaceutical companies. The thesis deals with real new problems. Here is described how new approaches, in terms of analytical methodology, can still be innovative in practical applications. Efficient analytical methods have been developed, including separation techniques, for instance, hplc, ce, spe and 2d-lc, complemented by different elucidation techniques, such as  mass spectrometry
