Dentro de la tradicion antropologica del estudio de la fiesta desde la teoria del ritual, la investigacion plantea revisar algunos supuestos basicos de la misma, en particular (a) la presuncion de un horizonte comunitario (b) la idea de tradicion como programa de accion colectiva (c) la funcion socialmente integradora del ritual para el grupo celebrante (d) el caracter residual del pensamiento y la accion simbolicos.  a partir de la investigacion etnografica del ciclo madrile\u00f1o y algunas de sus escenas; se sugieren lineas de reformulacion de tales supuestos como otras nuevas formas de vinculacion simbolica (comunidades imaginarias, redes, agrupamientos efimeros), funciones no integradoras ni cohesivas del ritual; hibridaciones de accion tradicional y alanificacion burogratica;
