Los ratones que expresan una forma constitutivamente activa de creb (vp16-creb) son m\u00e1s propensos a la activaci\u00f3n propagada (kindling) y a desarrollar ataques epil\u00e9pticos espont\u00e1neos. Por el contrario, ratones con expresi\u00f3n dependiente de creb reducida (a-creb) son m\u00e1s resistentes a drogas pro-convulsivas y requer\u00edan una mayor dosis de estas drogas para inducir genes de expresi\u00f3n inmediatamente temprana. En concordancia con este resultado, estudios electrofisiol\u00f3gicos han demostrado un incremento de la excitabilidad de neuronas de la subregi\u00f3n hipoc\u00e1mpica ca1 en ratones vp16-creb, mientras la excitabilidad de estas neuronas en ratones a-creb est\u00e1 reducida. Interesantemente, ambas l\u00edneas de ratones muestran tras la activaci\u00f3n prolongada del transgen una p\u00e9rdida significativa de neuronas en el \u00e1rea ca1. Sin embargo, los procesos neurodegenerativos disparados en cada caso difieren en el mecanismo y en el curso temporal de la muerte celular. Nuestros estudios revelan que tanto un aumento como una reducci\u00f3n de la transcripci\u00f3n dependiente de creb pueden resultar en la p\u00e9rdida de neuronas en la regi\u00f3n ca1, aunque dicha manipulaci\u00f3n tenga effectos opuestos en excitabilidad neuronal. Lo cual sugiere que tan s\u00f3lo una precisa regulaci\u00f3n de la expresi\u00f3n g\u00e9nica dependiente de creb puede sustentar la supervivencia de neuronas piramidales de
