Entre estas se puede destacar la de sus suelos y sedimentos como sumideros de carbono atmosf\u00e9rico. La elevada productividad de sus comunidades vegetales, en conjunci\u00f3n con condiciones geoqu\u00edmicas que favorecen la lenta descomposici\u00f3n de la materia org\u00e1nica, hace que estos suelos y sedimentos sean considerados importantes sumideros de carbono a escala planetaria. Sin embargo, la estabilidad del carbono retenido, as\u00ed como los distintos papeles que la materia org\u00e1nica desempe\u00f1a en el ecosistema, est\u00e1n condicionados no s\u00f3lo por la cantidad, sino por la composici\u00f3n de dicha materia org\u00e1nica.  la presente memoria doctoral valora la materia org\u00e1nica de suelos y sedimentos en \u00e1mbitos estuarinos de la costa cantabro-atl\u00e1ntica espa\u00f1ola mediante su caracterizaci\u00f3n por diversas t\u00e9cnicas de qu\u00edmica anal\u00edtica: espectroscop\u00eda de infrarrojo, espectroscop\u00eda de luz ultravioleta y visible, espectroscop\u00eda de fluorescencia, resonancia magn\u00e9tica nuclear en estado s\u00f3lido de 13c, pir\u00f3lisis anal\u00edtica y espectrometr\u00eda de masas de is\u00f3topos estables. Adem\u00e1s, se prestar\u00e1 especial atenci\u00f3n al estudio de los posibles or\u00edgenes de dicha materia org\u00e1nica, a la influencia del ambiente geoqu\u00edmico en su composici\u00f3n as\u00ed como a la influencia de procesos antr\u00f3picos de reclamado y procesos de regeneraci\u00f3n natural en estos \u00e1mbitos estuarinos.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la
