Las respuestas a la baja disponibilidad de potasio son r\u00e1pidas inici\u00e1ndose antes incluso de que se alteren los contenidos internos de potasio en la planta.   un ayuno moderado en potasio favoreci\u00f3 el transporte de agua y de potasio en la ra\u00edz e inhibi\u00f3 el efecto del estr\u00e9s h\u00eddrico sobre el cierre estom\u00e1tico. Sin embargo, en las plantas bien nutridas en potasio el estr\u00e9s h\u00eddrico provoc\u00f3 el cierre del estoma. El efecto del cobalto en las plantas ayunadas en k+ y el efecto del ayuno sobre la s\u00edntesis de etileno, sugieren que el etileno se sintetiza en el proceso de transducci\u00f3n del ayuno en k+ e interviene en la inhibici\u00f3n de la apertura estom\u00e1tica ante situaciones de estr\u00e9s h\u00eddrico.  de estos resultados se desprende que en una primera etapa del ayuno en k+ las respuestas de la planta van encaminadas a favorecer la hidrataci\u00f3n y nutrici\u00f3n pot\u00e1sica de la parte a\u00e9rea. Sin embargo, si perdura el estado de ayuno y estr\u00e9s h\u00eddrico se puede producir la deshidrataci\u00f3n de la planta estas respuestas podr\u00edan estar relacionadas con alg\u00fan mecanismo de
