La excitacion vibracional de la molecula i2 conduce al agregado a un estado excitado que provoca su disociacion. Antes de producirse esto, el agregado permanece un tiempo en dicho estado (tiempo de vida medio) que puede ser determinado por el ensanchamiento de las lineas espectrales de fluorescencia del mismo. El autor hace un estudio detallado de los mecanismos que intervienen en la disociacion, tanto para el complejo i2 &#8211; ne. Del que propone solo la descripcion semiclasica, susceptible de ser extendida a sistemas mas complejos.  compara finalmente sus previsiones teoricas con los datos emperimentales proporcionados en la
