La estimulaci\u00f3n de este primer receptor 5-ht4 descrito daba lugar a un incremento de camp y era insensible al tratamiento con los antagonistas para las tres familias de receptores de serotonina descritas hasta la fecha 5-ht1, 5-ht2 y 5-ht3 (dumuis et al., 1988g). Desde entonces hasta la fecha se han descrito diez variantes de splicing del receptor 5-ht4 en mam\u00edfero (humano, rat\u00f3n y rata), nueve de las cuales difieren en su extremo carboxilo terminal (bender et al., 2000f) (vilar\u00f3 et al., 2002e) (bockaert et al., 2004e) (brattelid et al., 2004f). adem\u00e1s se ha relacionado este receptor con m\u00faltiples funciones dentro de las cuales destacan la liberaci\u00f3n de dopamina, acetilcolina y serotonina (de deurwaerdere et al 1997, consolo et al 19994; matsumoto et al 2001, ge and barnes 1996). Sin embargo, a\u00fan se desconoce la localizaci\u00f3n de los receptores 5-ht4 que mediar\u00edan estos efectos. con este trabajo hemos querido aportar luz sobre la localizaci\u00f3n anat\u00f3mica del receptor 5-ht4, as\u00ed como informaci\u00f3n sobre los circuitos neuronales en los que participa. Quiz\u00e1s en un futuro pr\u00f3ximo, una vez se hayan establecido las diferencias moleculares entre las diferentes isoformas, as\u00ed como su distribuci\u00f3n, ser\u00e1 posible intervenir farmacol\u00f3gicamente con mayor precisi\u00f3n en aquellos procesos patol\u00f3gicos en los que medie el receptor 5-ht4 evitando, en la medida de lo posible, los efectos adversos que frecuentemente
