Esta enzima presenta una alta conservaci\u00f3n evolutiva y se ha encontrado en pr\u00e1cticamente todos los organismos secuenciados hasta la fecha. En mam\u00edferos existen tres isoformas de la mat. Dos de ellas est\u00e1n conformadas por una misma subunidad catal\u00edtica (mat\u00c2\u00bf1) organizada como un d\u00edmero (mat iii) o un tetr\u00e1mero (mat i), y son conocidas como la mat hep\u00e1tica. En nuestro trabajo hemos intentado profundizar en el conocimiento de la distribuci\u00f3n tisular y subcelular de ambas isoenzimas, utilizando para ello muestras animales as\u00ed como distintas l\u00edneas celulares. Los resultados mostraron que mat i\/iii es ubicua pues, conjuntamente a los altos niveles tradicionalmente observados en h\u00edgado, se detect\u00f3 una expresi\u00f3n notable en p\u00e1ncreas y pulm\u00f3n, as\u00ed como, en menor cuant\u00eda, en la pr\u00e1ctica totalidad de los tejidos analizados. Tambi\u00e9n hemos demostrado por vez primera que mat i\/iii no s\u00f3lo se localiza en el citosol, sino que tambi\u00e9n est\u00e1 presente en el n\u00facleo, donde aparece unida a la matriz nuclear y en los speckles. Este patr\u00f3n de distribuci\u00f3n subcelular parece depender del tipo de c\u00e9lula estudiado, siendo mayoritariamente citos\u00f3lico en hepatocitos y nuclear en el
