Uno de dichos carbones es comercial, de la casa merck, y el otro ha sido obtenido a partir de cascara de almendra, por activacion directa a 850 grados c en atmosfera de co2 durante catorce horas.  el proceso se ha estudiado desde el punto de vista cinetico y de equilibrio. La cinetica del proceso parece iniciarse mediante una etapa irreversible de orden dos, seguida de otra reversible, de orden dos con relacion a la adsorcion y de orden uno respecto a la desorcion. El proceso, en conjunto, parece ser regulado por la difusion, siendo los coeficientes de difusion del orden de 10-9 cm2\/sg.  las isotermas de retencion son del tipo h-3 de la clasificacion de giles. La aplicacion de la ecuacion de langmuir muestra dos fases distintas en el proceso de retencion, si bien las ecuaciones de b.E.T., Lopez gonzalez y toth, permiten ajustar los resultados experimentales en un solo tramo. Las capacidades de cambio calculadas son del orden de 1,5 moles de xantina\/g. De carbon.
