La pared celular de s. Cerevisiae est\u00e1 compuesta por  beta-1,3 y beta-1,6-glucanos, quitina y manoprote\u00ednas. Las manoprote\u00ednas se dividen en tres grandes grupos de acuerdo con el tipo de enlaces que determinan su retenci\u00f3n en la pared celular: unidas a trav\u00e9s de enlaces no covalentes, unidas a trav\u00e9s de enlaces covalentes y unidas a trav\u00e9s de puentes disulfuro. El grupo de manoprote\u00ednas unidas a trav\u00e9s de puentes disulfuro incluye al menos dos miembros de la familia de las pir (proteins  with internal repeats), pir2 y pir4, caracterizadas como tales por nuestro grupo. Esta familia se caracteriza por una estructura com\u00fan, compuesta por un p\u00e9ptido se\u00f1al y una subunidad i que es separada de la subunidad ii a nivel del golgi por efecto de la proteasa  kex2p. La subunidad ii corresponde a la prote\u00edna madura tal como se extrae de las paredes celulares aisladas por tratamiento con agentes reductores y se caracteriza por la presencia de una regi\u00f3n carboxi-terminal muy conservada que contiene cuatro ciste\u00ednas en posiciones fijas que son determinantes para la retenci\u00f3n de la prote\u00edna en la pared celular.          mediante t\u00e9cnicas de ingenier\u00eda gen\u00e9tica, se han creado prote\u00ednas h\u00edbridas que incluyen la regi\u00f3n codificante de la lipasa a de bacillus subtilis, pectinasa a de paenibacillus barcinonensis y celulasa a de p. Barcinonensis, a excepci\u00f3n del p\u00e9ptido se\u00f1al, y parte de la prote\u00edna pir4 de la pared celular de s.
