Se utilizaron 54 ratas wistar. En el primer experimento 24 machos de 30 d\u00edas de edad divididos en 4 grupos (6 animales\/grupo, 1 control y 3 tratados). En el segundo experimento 24 machos de 60 d\u00edas de edad divididos en 4 grupos (6 animales\/grupo, 1 c ontrol y 3 tratados). Los animales del grupo control recibieron el vehiculo aceite de ma\u00edz, v\u00eda oral; los animales de los grupos tratados recibieron 20, 50 y 80 mg amitraz\/kg\/d\u00eda, 5 d\u00edas, v\u00eda oral. En el tercer experimento se usaron 6 hembras pre\u00f1ada s de 60 d\u00edas de edad, divididas en 2 grupos, 3 animales\/grupo, 1 control y 1 tratado (20 mg amitraz\/kg\/d\u00eda durante la gestaci\u00f3n y lactancia). Las cr\u00edas nacidas se mantuvieron hasta los 60 d\u00edas de edad en continua observaci\u00f3n. Los animales se sacrific aron tras el tratamiento, se aisl\u00f3 el enc\u00e9falo y la m\u00e9dula espinal, y seguidamente el hipot\u00e1lamo, mesenc\u00e9falo, bulbo raqu\u00eddeo, cerebelo, corteza frontal, hipocampo y cuerpo estriado, que se almacenaron a -80\u00c2\u00bac hasta el an\u00e1lisis por hplc de las concen traciones de noradrenalina (na), dopamina (da), serotonina (5-ht) y sus respectivos metabolitos. El amitraz en ratas de 30 y 60 d\u00edas de edad origin\u00f3 un aumento de los niveles de 5-ht, da y na y una disminuci\u00f3n de sus metabolitos. El amitraz present\u00f3 neurotoxicidad en el desarrollo observ\u00e1ndose una disminuci\u00f3n del contenido de 5-ht, da, y na. Los resultados del presente trabajo demuestran que el amitraz origina alteraciones en el sistema monoamin\u00e9rgico, datos importantes para ser incorporados en la evaluaci\u00f3n del riesgo de este
