El carcinoma oral de c\u00e9lulas escamosas (coce) representa m\u00e1s del 90% del c\u00e1ncer oral. El \u00edndice de supervivencia de los pacientes con coce no ha mejorado en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os. Todos estos datos justifican la necesidad y el inter\u00e9s de la b\u00fasqueda de marcadores que nos permitan un diagnostico precoz de estas neoplasias. En este sentido se sit\u00faa la detecci\u00f3n incruenta de alteraciones gen\u00e9ticas que tengan implicaciones diagn\u00f3sticas y pron\u00f3sticas. en este trabajo de tesis doctoral se aborda el an\u00e1lisis de alteraciones gen\u00e9ticas y epigen\u00e9ticas en muestras citol\u00f3gicas orales de pacientes con riesgo de desarrollar un carcinoma oral de c\u00e9lulas escamosas bien primario, como una recidiva o como un segundo primario. nuestro estudio demuestra que la hipermetilaci\u00f3n de las regiones promotoras de los genes p16ink4a y mgmt son sucesos frecuentes en estos pacientes y que se asocian a un riesgo significativo de padecer un coce en los pacientes de riesgo estudiados.
