Este gen se identific\u00f3 por la similitud de la secuencia de la prote\u00edna cdnl con la del dominio n-terminal de card, un factor transcripcional de acci\u00f3n global. Cdnl y ntercard forman parte de la familia proteica pfam02559, que incluye un amplio n\u00famero de prote\u00ednas bacterianas. A pesar de su similitud, cdnl no es funcional ni estructuralmente equivalente a ntercard. El gen cdnl es esencial para m. Xanthus, y el bloqueo temporal de su expresi\u00f3n hace que las c\u00e9lulas sean inusualmente alargadas, conteniendo, aparentemente, m\u00e1s de dos nucleoides. Sin embargo, la sobreexpresi\u00f3n de cdnl no afecta a la viabilidad celular. In vivo, la prote\u00edna cdnl fusionada a egfp localiza exclusivamente en el nucleoide. En este trabajo tambi\u00e9n se ha caracterizado la regi\u00f3n promotora del gen cdnl y los resultados obtenidos indican que dicho gen es dependiente del factor sigma vegetativo siga. La prote\u00edna cdnl interacciona consigo misma y no se une a la polimerasa de rna de m. Xanthus. Cdnl est\u00e1 constituida por dos dominios: ntercdnl, formado por los primeros 60 amino\u00e1cidos y muy sensible a la acci\u00f3n de proteasas, y ctercdnl, formado por los 104 \u00faltimos amino\u00e1cidos y muy resistente a la acci\u00f3n de proteasas. La prote\u00edna hom\u00f3loga a cdnl en thermus thermophilus (ttcdnl) muestra la misma disposici\u00f3n de dominios, sensible y resistente a proteasas, que cdnl. Ni el dominio ctercdnl, ni 4 miembros de pfam02559 de distintos taxones, ni la quimera ntercdnl:cterttcdnl suplen la ausencia de cdnl en m. Xanthus.
