Estudios llevados a cabo por nuestro grupo han implicado a este esfingol\u00edpido en el control de numerosos aspectos fisiol\u00f3gicos de la c\u00e9lula, incluyendo la proliferaci\u00f3n y la supervivencia celular. En los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os se ha sugerido que algunos esfingol\u00edpidos est\u00e1n implicados en la regulaci\u00f3n de la actividad pla2 en c\u00e9lulas pulmonares cancerosas a549. Por otro lado, la viabilidad as\u00ed como la migraci\u00f3n celular son procesos directamente implicados en el inicio y desarrollo de enfermedades que cursan con inflamaci\u00f3n, como es la aterog\u00e9nesis, o la enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva cr\u00f3nica (epoc).  En este trabajo se ha demostrado que el c1p es capaz de inhibir la apoptosis en macr\u00f3fagos alveolares por medio del bloqueo de la actividad spt, enzima principal de la s\u00edntesis de novo de cer\u00e1midos. Por otra parte, el c1p tambi\u00e9n est\u00e1 implicado en la inflamaci\u00f3n, en la que el c1p activa la ruta pi3-k\/pkb produciendo una activaci\u00f3n de la principal enzima de generaci\u00f3n de \u00e1cido araquid\u00f3nico, la cpla2. Por otra parte,  el c1p act\u00faa promoviendo la migraci\u00f3n de los macr\u00f3fagos y esto lo realiza modulando las rutas de se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n mek\/erk 1\/2, pi3-k\/pkb, rock\/rhoa, y pkc\u00c2\u00bf. Para que el c1p promueva la migraci\u00f3n celular es necesario que \u00e9ste esfingol\u00edpido se una a su receptor espec\u00edfico. Este trabajo resulta s fundamental para el conocimiento de la apoptosis, e inflamaci\u00f3n en macr\u00f3fagos, as\u00ed como para el estudio de enfermedades relacionadas con estos procesos como son
