Nosotros hipotetizamos que las c\u00e9lulas dendr\u00edticas (dc) producir\u00edan alfa-defensinas1-3. Esto les permitir\u00eda lesionar al vih antes o despu\u00e9s de capturarlo y presentarlo as\u00ed m\u00e1s eficientemente a las c\u00e9lulas t sin transmitirles la infecci\u00f3n. De este modo la variabilidad interindividual en la producci\u00f3n de estas defensinas podr\u00eda constituir un factor de resistencia\/susceptibilidad para la infecci\u00f3n por vih y su evoluci\u00f3n a sida. en nuestros resultados encontramos que las dc inmaduras producen y secretan alfa-defensinas1-3 y que esta producci\u00f3n disminuye tras la maduraci\u00f3n de las dc. Adem\u00e1s, las citocinas pro-inflamatorias aumentan la producci\u00f3n mientras que el tratamiento de las c\u00e9lulas con estr\u00f3geno la disminuye. Por otro lado, las alfa-defensinas1-3 son capaces de modular la maduraci\u00f3n y diferenciaci\u00f3n de las dc e inducen la secreci\u00f3n de il-8 de forma dosis-dependiente. Por \u00faltimo, el an\u00e1lisis de los pacientes infectados por vih revel\u00f3 que las dc de estos pacientes producen mayores niveles de alfa-defensinas1-3 que los controles sanos. Adem\u00e1s, dentro del grupo de infectados, aquellos que controlan espont\u00e1neamente la infecci\u00f3n son los mayores productores.
