Dichos par\u00e1metros forman parte del factor de selecci\u00f3n de barcos para inspecci\u00f3n y son el pabell\u00f3n, la sociedad clasificadora, la edad, el tipo y el tama\u00f1o de los buques.  por un lado, el an\u00e1lisis estad\u00edstico refleja que la ocurrencia de los accidentes mar\u00edtimos no guarda relaci\u00f3n con el nivel de seguridad de los buques y, por otro, se pone de manifiesto que la gravedad de dichos incidentes tiene una relaci\u00f3n directa con las variables de lo sub-est\u00e1ndar, observ\u00e1ndose que los buques de pabellones incluidos en la lista negra del memorando de par\u00eds, los clasificados en sociedades de baja calidad, los menos especializados, los de m\u00e1s edad y los de menor tama\u00f1o, tienen tendencia a sufrir accidentes m\u00e1s graves que los otros buques. el estudio de la relaci\u00f3n de las variables de lo sub-est\u00e1ndar con la frecuencia de los accidentes mar\u00edtimos lleva a aceptar la teor\u00eda de la home\u00f3stasis del riesgo, seg\u00fan la cual, la tasa de accidentes mar\u00edtimos se mantiene constante al margen de la acci\u00f3n preventiva de los est\u00e1ndares internacionales debido a que cuanto m\u00e1s seguridad se d\u00e9 al transporte mar\u00edtimo, m\u00e1s riesgo se aceptar\u00e1 en la operaci\u00f3n de los buques para incrementar la eficiencia econ\u00f3mica de los mismos. las conclusiones obtenidas acerca de la relaci\u00f3n entre las variables que identifican el nivel de seguridad de los buques y la accidentalidad mar\u00edtima, conducen a aceptar la teor\u00eda de que los accidentes
