La secuencia sintetica incluye la reaccion de derivados del acido 2-cloronicotinico con 3-nitroanilinas en presencia de carbonato potasico y de cobre en polvo como catalizador. Una vez obtenidos los derivados del acido nicotinico, estos se someten a ciclocondensacion con acido polifosforico rindiendo antracenonas. El tratamiento de las mismas con oxicloruro de fosforo rinde los correspondientes cloroderivados. Estos ultimos condensan con fenol para dar fenoxidos que a su vez se hacen reaccionar con aminas alifaticas primarias como n,n- dimetilaminopropilamina, n,n-dietilaminoetilamina y 2-hidroxietilamina. Los derivados obtenidos son inestables, se conservan en frigorifico a -20 grados c y han sido evaluados frente a celulas v79 en un ensayo clonogenico y en ensayo dosis-respuesta. Los tres derivados han resultado ser selectivos en condiciones de hipoxia. La potencia que exhiben es del orden de 1 micromolar, aproximadamente 10 veces inferior a la mostrada por nitracrina.
