El material pertenece a la familia de tipo aurivillius que presentan propiedades ferroel\u00e9ctricas y piezoel\u00e9ctricas hasta temperaturas elevadas, 675\u00c2\u00bac. Estas propiedades hacen del material un potencial candidato para aplicaciones de alta temperatura que en la pr\u00e1ctica presenta limitaciones que a\u00fan no han sido resueltas. un primer aspecto abordado fue el estudio del mecanismo de s\u00edntesis del compuesto mediante reacci\u00f3n en estado s\u00f3lido. En la s\u00edntesis del bit el primer compuesto que se forma es la silenita, bi12tio20, por difusi\u00f3n de los cationes de bi3+ en las part\u00edculas de tio2 y posteriormente con una mayor incorporaci\u00f3n de los cationes de bi3+ forman la fase de bit. Una vez formado el bit como \u00fanica fase cristalina se ha identificado la presencia de una fase secundaria de naturaleza amorfa rica en bismuto. Dicha fase secundaria influye en los procesos de densificaci\u00f3n del material. A temperaturas bajas de sinterizaci\u00f3n inhibe el transporte de masa limitando el crecimiento de placa, mientras que a temperaturas de sinterizaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s elevadas promueve la sinterizaci\u00f3n mediante una fase l\u00edquida, a\u00fan para bordes de grano de baja curvatura, provocando un crecimiento de placa y de la relaci\u00f3n de aspecto. Se evalu\u00f3 la influencia que presentan estas fases secundarias en la microestructura del material cer\u00e1mico, estableciendo dos mecanismos de sinterizaci\u00f3n diferenciados para explicar el
