Adem\u00e1s, ambos miembros est\u00e1n implicados en el proceso de la supervivencia celular donde se ha demostrado que est\u00e1n regulados tras da\u00f1o en el dna actuando como factores anti-apopt\u00f3ticos, lo cual se cree que confiere una ventaja selectiva tanto a las c\u00e9lulas embrionarias as\u00ed como tambi\u00e9n a las c\u00e9lulas malignas. Por tanto, snai1 y snai2 han sido considerados marcadores de malignidad e indicadores del potencial metast\u00e1tico de los tumores. Adem\u00e1s, estudios en ratones han demostrado que ambos miembros participan en la g\u00e9nesis de tumores.  snai3 es el tercer miembro de esta familia en vertebrados debido a su homolog\u00eda en la secuencia g\u00e9nica y en la estructura proteica con snai1 y snai2, y por el uso de las secuencias e-box en su uni\u00f3n al dna. Sin embargo se desconoce su funci\u00f3n biol\u00f3gica. Por ello, hemos estudiado en esta tesis doctoral la funci\u00f3n de este \u00faltimo miembro en procesos biol\u00f3gicos similares a los en que est\u00e1n implicados los otros dos miembros.  con los resultados obtenidos en este trabajo podemos decir que snai3 no induce el proceso de la emt. Sin embargo, la expresi\u00f3n de snai3 est\u00e1 regulada tras da\u00f1o en el dna, de tal manera que su expresi\u00f3n aumenta tras ese da\u00f1o, siendo esta expresi\u00f3n regulada por p53. Adem\u00e1s snai3 frena la proliferaci\u00f3n y bloquea la entrada en la fase s del ciclo celular. As\u00ed mismo la expresi\u00f3n de snai3 tambi\u00e9n est\u00e1 regulada por snai2 que reprime su expresi\u00f3n de forma directa. La importancia de controlar la expresi\u00f3n de snai3 se puso de manifiesto in vivo mediante la generaci\u00f3n de ratones combitta-snai3, los cuales desarrollan tumores siendo mucho m\u00e1s
