Para la mayor\u00eda de a utores contempor\u00e1neos la \u00c2\u00bfconcepci\u00f3n cartesiana de lo mental\u00c2\u00bf es una noci\u00f3n obsoleta de lo que es la mente, siendo incluso, para algunos, la propia idea de \u00c2\u00bfmente\u00c2\u00bf una noci\u00f3n pre-cient\u00edfica fruto de su invenci\u00f3n.  el an\u00e1lisis cr\u00edtico en el que se fun da la filosof\u00eda de la mente, implica, no obstante, una reconstrucci\u00f3n de un determinado signo de la concepci\u00f3n dualista que descartes propone de la mente.  en efecto, en general la concepci\u00f3n cartesiana de lo mental actual se reduce a lo que se conoc e como \u00c2\u00bfdualismo cartesiano\u00c2\u00bf, es decir, a la distinci\u00f3n que descartes realiza entre res cogitans y res extensa.  la revisi\u00f3n en profundidad de la obra cartesiana, sin embargo, permite comprobar que el tratamiento que hizo descartes del tema es de dos  \u00f3rdenes distintos. El primero de car\u00e1cter principalmente epistemol\u00f3gico-metaf\u00edsico y el segundo, esencialmente mecanicista y fisiol\u00f3gico.  una de las ideas rectoras de esta investigaci\u00f3n es que descartes lleva a cabo la formulaci\u00f3n del pensamiento c ient\u00edfico moderno. El paradigma cartesiano de lo mental es un resultado de dicha formulaci\u00f3n.  la idea de mente que defini\u00f3 descartes est\u00e1 enmarcada dentro de un proyecto epistemol\u00f3gico que habr\u00eda de transformar el pensamiento antiguo, en aras del de sarrollo de la ciencia y de la b\u00fasqueda de la certeza del conocimiento, en pensamiento cient\u00edfico. Ello hace del paradigma cartesiano de lo mental una cuesti\u00f3n m\u00e1s compleja y m\u00e1s firmemente asentada en el pensamiento occidental de lo que \u00c2\u00bfa primera v ista\u00c2\u00bf se ha
