Como consecuencia, leucocitos mononucleares migran y se adhieren a la pared del vaso, acumul\u00e1ndose lipoprote\u00ednas en el espacio subendotelial, cuya  oxidaci\u00f3n contribuye al proceso inflamato rio por activaci\u00f3n de macr\u00f3fagos, que a su vez sintetizan citoquinas y factores de crecimiento que promueven la atracci\u00f3n de c\u00e9lulas musculares lisas, estimulando la angiog\u00e9nesis. La adhesi\u00f3n plaquetaria a la superficie endotelial y la secreci\u00f3n de q uimiocinas y factores de crecimiento contribuye a la migraci\u00f3n de c\u00e9lulas musculares lisas desde la media a la \u00edntima, estimulando la producci\u00f3n extracelular de proteinas de la matriz. La formaci\u00f3n de la capa fibrosa que rodea el ateroma y la continu a acumulaci\u00f3n lipidica por macr\u00f3fagos da lugar a la formaci\u00f3n de c\u00e9lulas espumosas. Dependiendo del espesor de la capa fibrosa se producir\u00e1 la ruptura, con la consiguiente exposici\u00f3n del core necr\u00f3tico del ateroma a la sangre, agregaci\u00f3n plaquetaria con trombosis y potencial infarto. la ausencia de factores de riesgo cl\u00e1sicos, no previene de accidentes cardiovasculares. la hiperhomocisteinemia se considera factor de riesgo vascular independiente y se relaciona  con la presencia de genotipo homoc igoto mutado para la 677c>t de la mthfr. en la aterosclerosis los niveles elevados de hsp70 intracelulares que poseen propiedades antiinflamatorias, se han relacionado con el desarrollo y pron\u00f3stico de la enfermedad, y se asocia al genotipo salvaje p ara los snps \u00c2\u00bf326 a>c y \u00c2\u00bf27g>c del promotor del gen hsp70. Niveles disminuidos de hsp70 en pmn se asocian con genotipo mutado.  ante la agresi\u00f3n celular y\/o da\u00f1o endotelial, la c\u00e9lula responde activando los genes que codifican hsps, lo que lleva a un  incremento en la s\u00edntesis de hsp70 intracelulares. La sobreexpresi\u00f3n de hsp70 intracelular dar\u00eda lugar a un incremento en el transporte a la membrana y su extravasaci\u00f3n celular, alcanz\u00e1ndose un equilibrio transmembrana.
