To this end, we make a study of the ordinary differential equations that model the dynamics of the chemical species participating in the network. We put a special emphasis in equilibrium solutions of the system applying methods from algebraic geometry and convex analysis. The techniques developed are used in the study of biological systems of interest such as apoptosis and interferon beta signaling pathway which are involved in human complex diseases (cancer and
