Para ello se ha empleado el registro extracelular de los nervios ciliares del ojo del gato, determinandose:  &#8211; el empleo de co2 como estimulo quimico en los nociceptores polimodales corneales, &#8211; la interaccion entre los protones y la capsaicina, &#8211; el papel de los iones calcio en la transduccion de los estimulos quimicos y mecanicos, &#8211; el bloqueo farmacologico de la quimio- y mecanosensibilidad con antiinflamatorios no esteroideos antagonistas de los canales de calcio y bloqueantes de canales ionicos activados por distension.  los resultados indican que:  &#8211; el co2 gaseoso actua como un potente estimulo quimico; la respuesta se reduce en presencia de indometacina, flurbiprofen, diclofenac, diltiazem y morfina.  &#8211; la capsaicina activa a las terminaciones nociceptoras.  esta respuesta no es superponible a la del co2 gaseoso.  &#8211; los bloqueantes de canales ionicos activados por la distension como son el gadolinio, la gentamicina y la amilorida no bloquean la respuesta mecanica de los nociceptores corneales.
