Estos factores se unen al dna en sitios consenso (llamados cajas e) actuando como represores transcripcionales. Las proteinas snail desempe\u00f1an m\u00faltiples funciones durante el desarrollo y en patolog\u00edas del adulto, mediante la inducci\u00f3n de la transici\u00f3n epitelio mes\u00e9nquima que confiere a las c\u00e9lulas propiedades migratorias, y la inducci\u00f3n de la parada del ciclo celular y promoci\u00f3n de la supervivencia.    a diferencia de los genes snail, la expresi\u00f3n de los genes scratch est\u00e1 restringida al sistema nervioso en desarrollo. En este trabajo hemos descrito por primera vez la funci\u00f3n que un miembro de esta subfamilia, scratch2, desempe\u00f1a durante el desarrollo del sistema nervioso central de pez cebra, m\u00e1s concretamente en la m\u00e9dula espinal.  al igual que otros miembros de la superfamilia, scratch2 protege de la muerte celular programada o apoptosis mediante la represi\u00f3n de la transcripci\u00f3n del gen proapopt\u00f3tico puma, y promueve la diferenciaci\u00f3n celular a trav\u00e9s del control de la salida del ciclo celular activando la trascripci\u00f3n de p57 o cdkn1c. De estos resultados se puede concluir que las funciones ancestrales asociadas a la superfamilia snail\/scratch son el control de la proliferaci\u00f3n y de la muerte
