Existen materiales nanoestructurados con diferentes microestructuras: puntos cu\u00e1nticos, nanohilos, nanotubos, nanocristales y superredes. En la tabla 1.1 se resumen las dimensiones t\u00edpicas de algunas de estas nanoestructuras [1]. Las propiedades f\u00edsicas y qu\u00edmicas de los nanomateriales pueden desviarse del comportamiento que presentan estructuras de igual composici\u00f3n con tama\u00f1os caracter\u00edsticos por encima de la micra (10 elevado a -6 m). La capacidad de modificar y controlar determinadas propiedades en estos materiales ha despertado en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os el desde distintas \u00e1reas de investigaci\u00f3n. Existen dos maneras de enfocar la ciencia encargada del estudio y desarrollo de los nanomateriales. Por un lado, lo que se conoce como bottom-up, consiste en la reducci\u00f3n de dimensiones a partir de estructuras mayores. Esta idea fue expresada por primera vez en 1959 por richard feymann durante la conferencia que llevaba por t\u00edtulo \there is plenty of room at the bottom\u00bb [2]. Por otro lado, existe un enfoque m\u00e1s reciente conocido como up-down, basado en el auto-ensamblaje y en la idea de que cada nanoestuctura forma parte de una supraestructura [3]. Durante la \u00faltima d\u00e9cada se ha avanzado excepcionalmente en las \u00e1reas de investigaci\u00f3n relacionadas con los materiales nanoestructurados, gracias tanto a la aparici\u00f3n de
