Las esterasas bacterianas son activas en un amplio rango de sustrato, pudiendo realizar reacciones de s\u00edntesis, hidr\u00f3lisis o de intercambio de grupos, muchas veces de forma altamente quimio, regio o estereoespec\u00edfica, y sin llevar a cabo reacciones laterales o generar subproductos. Adem\u00e1s, estas enzimas son altamente estables en un amplio rango de temperaturas, phs y solventes org\u00e1nicos, aunque la mayor\u00eda son mes\u00f3filas o prefieren phs neutros o b\u00e1sicos. Son tambi\u00e9n estables frente a diferentes detergentes, iones (aunque alguno puede activarlas o inhibirlas) y  agentes qu\u00edmicos, y, en general, no requieren coofactores. Por estos motivos, y debido al conocimiento existente sobre estas enzimas, a su disponibilidad, y al hecho de que los procesos en los que intervienen son generalmente menos costosos y menos contaminantes, que sus correspondientes procesos qu\u00edmicos, las esterasas bacterianas son las enzimas m\u00e1s vers\u00e1tiles y m\u00e1s ampliamente utilizadas en biotecnolog\u00eda. Una de las reacciones, de inter\u00e9s biotecnol\u00f3gico, que son capaces de catalizar es la desacetilaci\u00f3n o la s\u00edntesis de ciertos compuestos inter\u00e9s industrial. En este trabajo se han clonado, sobreexpresado, purificado, caracterizado cin\u00e9ticamente e inmovilizado sin soporte esterasas de varias cepas bacterianas y se ha llevado a cabo su  aplicaci\u00f3n
